Ring of Kerry in Ireland

I love it. It is the most beautiful region in Ireland, in my opinion. Unparalleled views from the coastal cliffs, romantic, colourful small towns and villages, mountains, lakes, local life, historical sights...

I have driven these roads hundreds of times, but I still realise how lucky I am to experience this natural beauty repeatedly. On my days off, I prefer to drive to another city, stop along the way and enjoy the incredible view from the coastal cliffs, then walk around the city, have a cup of coffee in a cute cafe, and chat with the local elderly couple sitting at the following table, whose questions never seem to end when I mention that I am from Estonia.

I have a warm recommendation for you: if you are planning a trip to Ireland and do not want to limit yourself to Dublin, add the Ring of Kerry to your itinerary. You will be part of a powerful cultural and natural experience. It is not without reason that it is considered the most famous and beautiful road in Ireland.

This 179-kilometer ring road runs through County Kerry in southwest Ireland. It offers views of Killarney National Park, the Gap of Dunloe, mountains and valleys, and historical attractions in Ireland. Since I have a special connection with the sea, my favourite sections are along the coastal cliffs, from which a decisive sea view opens.

You can start your journey, for example, in Killarney and drive through traditional Irish villages and towns - Kenmare, Sneem, Waterville, Cahersiveen, Killorglin, and also visit the famous Dingle Peninsula, which is considered the most beautiful place in Ireland.

What is the best way to travel around the Ring of Kerry?

If possible, plan at least two or three days to complete the Ring of Kerry and stay overnight in various small towns, hike in nature, and dine in local taverns:
  • by rental car, but keep in mind that traffic in Ireland is on the left;
  • with a day tour, I dare to recommend this tour;
  • by yourself using public transport - be sure to reserve at least a couple of days; by hiking - consider 7 to 10 days;
  • I would be happy to be your guide - only by prior arrangement.
